About the Programme

Calling young performers aged 7-18 to join us for an eight-week training programme, culminating in performances at Clarence Street Theatre, October 4th-6th. NYT is all-access, so everyone who joins the cast will be a member of the ensemble and perform in all shows, with the option of auditioning for lead roles early in the process for those who want to. All cast will rehearse weekly, learning everything they need to prepare for the show. Whether you're new to the stage or a seasoned performer, there will be something for you in this programme!

About the Show

Our production of "Wendy" was performed at the Aotea Centre in December 2022. Honouring the original text of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, but reimagined for a 21st century audience, Wendy takes centre stage as she charts a path in Neverland from youthful innocence to changing the world alongside the much-loved characters of Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Captain Hook and the Lost Boys.

Featuring a host of original songs, the revival of forgotten Barrie characters including the Never Bird and the Mermaid, and a colourful and exhilarating production featuring colourful costumes, mechanical creatures, and stunning lighting and digital effects.

Writers-composers Jonathan Alver and James Doy have crafted an incredible song list reflecting the eccentric nature of J M Barrie's writing whilst bringing it alive for a new generation.

National Youth Theatre believes that diversity and inclusion are essential to creating a vibrant and authentic production. We aim to put together a diverse cast of young performers, and are working with a creative team that reflects the diversity of the Kirikiriroa area.
